It is important that Presbyterian Church
of the Resurrection, in response to its Christian calling, reach out
to their community and the world with both physical and financial
support.
J.H.House Elementary School is our neighbor. At the beginning of each
school year, we provide book bags and classroom supplies. As winter
approaches, there is a need for warm coats, gloves, hats and scarves
which our membership supplies. Some of our members serve as mentors to
children through the PAL program. At Christmas, new toys and bicycles
are made available to parents selected by the school who might be
experiencing financial difficulties.
PCR’s Food Pantry is open weekly, serving those in our area who need
this assistance. Arrangements are made through the church office in
advance and a pick-up day is assigned.
Disaster Relief for Mississippi drew a number of members to assist in
cleaning up flood-ravaged homes following devastating storms along the
coast. Additional members are prepared to respond as needed in other
disaster relief efforts.
Habitat for Humanity does not currently have a project in our area, but
we have helped on previous builds and look forward to another
opportunity to participate.
PATH – Presbyterian Answer to Hunger – is supported by walkers for this
cause which raises funds to help feed the hungry. Some of the proceeds
from these walks help stock our church’s food pantry.
Women’s Circles, Presbyterian Women, Men-of-the-Church provide financial
and physical support for people in our community and to other helping
organizations.
Souper Bowl of Caring mobilizes youth across the country to raise funds
for people in need. Donations help support the Clifton Sanctuary
Ministries.
Clifton Night Shelter is one of our longest commitments. This facility
houses homeless men, gives them work opportunities and helps prepare
them for returning to gainful employment. Our members help prepare
meals, manage laundry, and serve on the Board in various capacities.
Polling Place is a new role for our church, having been recently
selected as a voting facility for the Bethel precinct, beginning in
February of 2008.
