Fellowship is an important element in
the congregational life of Presbyterian Church of the Resurrection.
Our church year begins at Advent, awaiting the birth of Jesus Christ. A
“Hanging of the Green” service is held on the first Sunday of Advent. This is a cherished tradition with music by the Chancel and
bell choirs, congregational carols, scripture and opportunities for our
children to fully participate.
Christmas Eve’s Candlelight service is one of the most beautiful times
of our year when members, their extended families and friends, come
together to share communion around the table.
There are congregational dinners which are often “pot luck” and held
periodically. This is an ideal opportunity for friendly conversation,
good food and programs of various sorts.
In April, there is a Spring Fling – our festival celebrating the arrival
of warmer weather. The men prepare their famous Bar-B-Q to “eat in” or
“carry out” and there is a bake sale offering a wide assortment of
homemade pies, cakes and cookies. Activities include live and silent
auctions for hand-crafted and new items plus fun things for the kids to
do. Festival proceeds support the outreach programs of both the
Men-of-the-Church and the Presbyterian Women’s organizations.
Outdoor activities are always exciting for our membership. The men
organize baseball and basketball tournaments as well as a golf outing
each year. The children enjoy their annual
Easter Egg Hunt which is a great way for kids and adults to play together.
In October, we host a Fall Festival, again featuring Bar-B-Q and the
bakery. For children, there is a “Trunk-or-Treat” in the
parking lot, plus other activities such as games and scavenger hunts. A spooky Halloween
is celebrated yearly and something the kids especially enjoy and look
forward to.
For those seeking fellowship in a different setting, visit our new
Meditation Garden. It is a peaceful space on church grounds, blessed with the quiet of nature. This garden is just the right
atmosphere for fellowship with God through prayer and reflection, or
with small groups for Bible study and discussion. It has been
nick-named "a pretty place to sit and think."
Opportunities for Christian fellowship are many and varied.
They include weddings and receptions, birthday and anniversary
celebrations, welcomes and farewells.
Some years there are surprise events for the entire congregation,
like a Chili Cook-off, Valentine's Dinner Party and a Christmas Music
Festival and Feast. You'll quickly learn that at PCR, we like to
eat!
A congregational favorite, May the Road Rise to Meet You, is
sung at the end of many worship services. The choir comes to the
rail and sings to the congregation and in response, they turn towards
each other and join in. It is another of PCR's most loved traditions.
