Originally established as Lithonia
Presbyterian Church in 1875 in Lithonia, GA, it was dissolved in 1881,
then reorganized in April, 1891. In the 1900's, a two-story frame building was erected on Bond Street and then remodeled in 1950. Soon afterward, the building was completely destroyed by fire. Standing in the reflection of flames, members began to pass a hat to collect money to rebuild at the same location. The second Bond Street building was brick, completed and dedicated in 1962. In the 1970's there was tremendous growth in the area and the first full-time pastor was called. In 1981, having outgrown it's Bond Street location, the congregation built and moved into a new facility on Evans Mill Road, remaining in Lithonia. Late in 2000, an unsolicited request was received to purchase the Evans Mill property for use as a school. Accepting the offer, a new location was selected in Conyers. For this reason, the name of the church was changed to Presbyterian Church of the Resurrection which reflects not only the new address, but our resurrection into a new life. PCR is rich in history and many current members grew up in this congregation - others have been here for 35 or more years. One of the things that mark this congregation as special is that new members are warmly received and quickly find a place for themselves in worship, ministry and fellowship. |
